SPI really delivered the wind and kiters this spring.
It’s our favorite time of year, when worldwide visitors arrive
to take advantage of the beautiful beaches, comfortable temperatures,
warm water, steady reliable winds and lots of “Texas Style”
camaraderie. The weather has been exceptional with one windy day
after another, both from the prevailing Southeast and the occasional
Northerly. What an enjoyable time we’ve had riding at our
favorite spots with old friends and new faces alike!
Speaking of new faces the newest addition to the South
Padre Island Kiteboarding family, future “grom” kiteboarder,
no doubt, Strider Thomas Stone. Striders proud parents Cliff Stone
and Lana Baily welcomed him into the world on April 5th, 2008 at
12:56pm. He’s a precious little thing who has already taken
his first swim lessons. Congratulations Cliff and Lana!
The SPI Wind & Kite Association hosted SPI Free
Speed Days throughout April and May at the North Flats. Kiters competed
in 20 or 30 minute heats recording their speed with a GPS device..
The fastest recorded Kiter speed was 33.9 knots. It was fun to get
new as well as veteran riders competing against one another for
a bit of excitement and friendly competition. Congratulations to
all who placed and many thanks to all who participated!
Our “spring fling” has been so amazing
we can only hope for a full blown love affair that lasts all summer
long.
